CHEYENNE – The Laramie County Community College men's soccer team got a much needed 5-1 win against Gillette College in Region IX North play on Wednesday afternoon at South High School.
LCCC got on the board in the 16th minute when Ricardo Vazquez (Denver, Colorado) played Jacob Alvarez (Las Vegas, Nevada) through to goal. Eddie Mercado (Las Vegas, Nevada) made it 2-0 in the 19th minute on a free kick. Gillette got one back on their second attempt on a penalty kick in the 33rd minute. Cheyenne native Aaron Barber extended the lead in the 40th minute on a pass from Vazquez.
The Golden Eagles would add two more goals in the second half, Raul Magno (Boulder, Colorado) and Vazquez got the goals. Alvarez and Magno were credited with the assists.
Vazquez led the attack for the Golden Eagles with five shots on the day. Sophomore Angel Alvarez (Las Vegas, Nevada) had five saves in the match. Austin Brandes (Cheyenne, Wyoming) came on and finished the final 12 minutes of action in the net.
LCCC moves to 3-10-1 on the season and 3-3-1 in Region IX North play. They finished the regular season on Saturday as they travel to Sheridan College for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
