Golden Eagles Esports Deliver Strong Week Across Multiple Titles

Laramie County Community College Esports put together another competitive and high-energy week of action beginning Monday, February 23, showcasing dominant performances, statement wins, and hard-fought battles against nationally recognized programs.

The week opened with a commanding showing from the Marvel Rivals squad, as the Golden Eagles secured a decisive 2–0 sweep over Hutchinson Community College. The match was highlighted by an outstanding night from Cody Lewis in the Duelist role. Lewis set the tempo from the opening map, recording more than 60 eliminations and surpassing 40,000 total damage, powering LCCC to a wire-to-wire victory.

In Fortnite: No-Build, Team 1 duo Victoria Kershaw and Adam Kirwin delivered a statement performance against Ranger College. The pair earned a clean 2–0 win while outscoring their opponents 22–8 in eliminations, demonstrating strong coordination and consistent pressure throughout both matches.

Fortnite: No-Build Team 2—Austin Emmert and Mackenzie Leibouvitz—faced one of their toughest tests of the season against reigning national champions Eastern Wyoming College. The Golden Eagles pushed the match to the limit, ultimately falling 1–2 in a tightly contested series that came down to round placement. Despite the narrow loss, the match stood as one of the closest and most competitive contests of the season.

Action continued on Tuesday, February 24, with mixed results across additional titles. Both Super Smash Bros. Ultimate teams dropped their matches 0–2, while Rocket League delivered one of the most dramatic moments of the week. LCCC battled Iowa Western Community College in a back-and-forth series that went the full five games before the Golden Eagles narrowly fell 3–2. Team captain Austin Emmert acknowledged the disappointment but emphasized the positives, noting the team's strong performance against a perennial national championship contender.

The week wrapped up on Thursday, February 26, with solid performances from the Mario Kart teams. Jesse Wardle picked up victories over Rose State College and Iowa Western Community College. Gavin Thornock earned wins against Rose State and Northeast Iowa Community College. Mackenzie Leibouvitz added victories over Hutchinson Community College and WSU Tech, while AJ Price rebounded from a loss to Marshalltown Community College with a win over Rose State.

Across multiple games and matchups, the Golden Eagles continued to demonstrate depth, resilience, and the ability to compete with top programs nationwide as the season moves forward.
