LCCC Battles Otero in 2-1 Loss

LA JUNTA, Co. – On a chilly afternoon the Laramie County Community College men's soccer team fell 2-1 at Otero Junior College on Wednesday, Sept. 27.

The Golden Eagles (1-9-1) outshot the Rattlers, 20-10 including 10-4 on goal.

Freshman Ricardo Vazquez (Denver, Colorado) garnered a game-high eight shots for LCCC, while sophomore Eddie Mercado (Las Vegas, Nevada) added a four-shot performance for the Golden Eagles.

Angel Alvarez (Las Vegas, Nevada) registered seven saves in the defeat.

The Rattlers got on the board first in the 20th minute when a build-up on the right side led to shot from Salvador Jimenez that hit the post and in. The Golden Eagles would be rewarded a penalty kick and scored but had to retake it as a Golden Eagle went into the box too early. On the second opportunity, the Rattler goalkeeper made the save.

Vazquez would equalize the game in the 40th minute on a one time finish on a pass from Jacob Alvarez (Las Vegas, Nevada). The Golden Eagles would go into the half tied at 1-1.

The Rattlers would regain the lead in the 73rd minute as Sebastian Garcia converted on a penalty kick.

The Golden Eagles return home on Oct. 4 as LCCC battles Western Wyoming Community College in a 1 p.m. tilt.
