CHEYENNE, Wy. – Laramie County Community College men's soccer (2-0) defeated Cloud County Community College (0-2) in a 3-1 decision on Sunday afternoon in Cheyenne.
The Golden Eagles and Thunderbirds were engaged in an attacking battle during the first half. Laramie County and CCCC combined for 12 shots in the first half. Cloud County recorded nine shots in the match and three were on goal. LCCC recorded 18 shots and 14 were on goal.
LCCC held a 14-3 edge in shots on goal, 14-7 edge in corners and edge in fouls 16-15.
The Golden Eagles got on the board first when Noe Ortiz-Pena (Aurora, Colorado) found Cameron Broadhurst (Broomfield, Colorado) on a corner kick in the 9th minute. Both teams were unable to get a rhythm of the game with 20 called in the first half. CCCC equalized in the 27th minute on a penalty kick from Jelldrik Dollman. Abe Lopez (Boulder, Colorado) regained the lead for the Golden Eagles in the 35th minute on a penalty kick.
Tanner Riedel (Laramie, Wyoming) kept the lead for LCCC and making a big stop midway through the second half. Carlos Vargas (Heber City, Utah) doubled the lead after finishing a pass from Omar Castruita (Boulder, Colorado) in the 74th minute.
LCCC will hit the road next on Friday Aug. 30 at 6 p.m. EST against #5 Eastern Florida State College.
