Golden Eagles open up 2024 CNFR with Grant in Bulls, Broncs, and Breakaway

CASPER, WY – The College National Finals Rodeo kicked off on Sunday afternoon with their traditional Bulls, Broncs, and Breakaway matinee showings, and the Laramie County Community College rodeo team was once again involved with Rayne Grant making her debut at the CNFR in breakaway roping.

Grant was up in the second of the two matinee’s and drew a fast calf that was just able to shrug off the loop giving a no time in the opening round for the sophomore.

The round was a quick one too with the round winners matching with times of 2.1 to win the round and the top 12 times finishing under 3.0 seconds.

Grant will still have two more goes in breakaway, including on Monday and again on Wednesday in the performance. She will also have three chances to run barrels with two goes in slack on Monday and Tuesday before a return to the arena on Thursday night for her final go in barrel racing.

The Golden Eagles have a busy week ahead of them with three total athletes competing in four events. Joining Grant is Kassidy Dunagan, participating in goat tying and Reece Wadhams is making his second trip to the CNFR as a team roper with his partner, Rio Nutter, from the University of Wyoming.

The CNFR moves to slack for Monday and Tuesday and that brings all three competitors to the arena the next two sessions. Grant will be kicking off both mornings in barrel racing which begins at 7:00 am on ESPN+. Grant will also be up midmorning in the Monday portion of the second go for breakaway.

The day will wrap up with both Dunagan and Wadhams closing out the slack sections in the afternoon. For updates and more, be sure to follow along on LCCC Athletics social media or at www.golccc.com
