Hobbs, NM —
In a nail-biting contest that went down to the wire, Laramie County Community College (LCCC) came up just short against Cisco College, falling 65–63 in overtime at the Hobbs Classic.
The Golden Eagles fought hard throughout the game, overcoming early shooting struggles to force the extra period. After trailing 28–24 at halftime, LCCC surged in the third quarter, outscoring Cisco 20–18 to tie the game heading into the fourth. Both teams traded blows in the final minutes, but Cisco edged out LCCC with a 9–7 advantage in overtime.
Selenay Tanik led the way with 17 points and 9 rebounds, attacking the paint and converting 8-of-12 from the free-throw line. Hannah Briskey added 12 points and 5 boards, while Helena Salazar Meinesz contributed 8 points and a team-high 10 rebounds. The bench provided a spark, scoring 22 points, including 6 from Alicia Trujillo.
Leading the charge for Cisco College was Ma'Kayla Mayes who was dominant, pouring in 28 points on 8-of-15 shooting and grabbing 7 rebounds. Sanaa Hayes and Pamina Montac chipped in 12 points each, combining for 16 rebounds.
LCCC shot 27.4% from the field and just 13.6% from three-point range, but their hustle kept them in the game with 22 second-chance points and 32 points in the paint. Cisco countered with a 45.1% shooting clip and hit 6 threes, including key buckets in the third quarter.
Despite the loss, LCCC showed resilience, forcing 31 Cisco turnovers and converting them into 28 points. However, missed opportunities at the free-throw line (20-of-38) and cold shooting in the fourth quarter (15.4%) proved costly.
The Golden Eagles drop to 5–4 on the season and will look to bounce back in their next matchup
