CHEYENNE, WY – #4 Laramie County Community College scored once in each half to secure a victory over the Western Wyoming Community College women's soccer team in a Region IX North clash on Saturday afternoon at LCCC Soccer Field.
The Golden Eagles had the game's best chances, and broke the deadlock in the 16th minute when Taylor Meyrick (Cheyenne, Wyoming) came down the side of the box and crossed it to Faith Meredith (Cheyenne, Wyoming) who headed it past the WWCC goalkeeper. Meyrick doubled the LCCC lead in the 65th minute. Thalita Portela Faria ( Sao Paulo, Brazil) combined to feed to Meyrick about 30 yard from goal and struck the shot for her third goal of the season.
Jil Turner (Peyton, Colorado) finished with one save while Markell Freeman had 11 for Western Wyoming.
Laramie County will host #8 seed Otero Junior College on Saturday, Oct. 26 for a Region IX Quarterfinal contest. LCCC will be the #1 seed in the Tournament.
LCCC is now 13-0-1 on the year. LCCC had the 18-3 lead in shots and 13-1 edge in shots on goal. The Golden Eagles out-earned the Mustangs, 8-4, in corner kicks.
