Brown's goal the difference for Golden Eagles

CHEYENNE, WY - The No. 14 ranked Laramie County Community College Golden Eagles (11-2-2) scored a pair of goals in the second half to come back and beat the Casper Thunderbirds (10-4-1) 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles controlled possession early on, almost taking the lead in the 25th minute when Hanah Cornaby's (Springville, Utah) shot was deflected just wide at the far post. Ainsley Basich (Cheyenne, Wyo.) was turned away by the Casper keeper in the 32nd minute, keeping the game scoreless.

Casper opened the scoring in the 37th minute on a shot from outside the box, just out of the reach of the keeper, giving the Thunderbirds a 1-0 lead.

The Golden Eagles responded quickly in the second half when Sophie Osman (Glasgow, Scotland) got behind the line of defense and beat the keeper at the far post to tie the game one in the 48th minute. 29 minutes later, Jenaya Brown (Edmonton, Alberta) gave the Golden Eagles the lead in the 77th minute, connecting on a free kick in the upper far corner, putting the Golden Eagles up 2-1. The goal was Brown's eighth of the season.

London Ewing (Alpine, Utah) stopped Casper's last-ditch effort, making a save on a shot in the box in the 87th minute.

The Golden Eagles will finish out the regular season on Monday, hosting Central Wyoming at 2:30 pm.
