In a game controlled by Laramie County Community College, it was Northwest College who walked away with the win, capitalizing on their lone shot on goal to secure a 1–0 victory Friday afternoon.
LCCC peppered the Northwest goal with 24 shots, 14 of which were on target, but a combination of heroic goalkeeping and last-ditch defending kept them off the scoresheet. Northwest goalkeeper Juliana Hidalgo was the star of the match, recording 11 saves and benefiting from three additional near-misses — two shots struck the post and one was cleared off the line by a defender.
Despite the relentless pressure, it was Northwest who found the breakthrough in the 48th minute. Midfielder Amelia Franklin unleashed a long-range strike from 25 yards out that soared past the LCCC keeper, marking the only shot on frame for Northwest — and the game-winner.
LCCC's inability to finish their chances proved costly. The Golden Eagles controlled possession, created numerous scoring opportunities, and looked the more dangerous side throughout. But soccer's cruel nature reared its head, as Northwest's efficiency and resilience proved decisive.
The result is a tough pill to swallow for LCCC, who will look to regroup and play again tomorrow against Central Wyoming.
