LCCC Women Battle Hard in National Tournament Opener Against Seminole State

Goalkeeper Jenna Feldmann focusing on the play

The Laramie County Community College women's soccer team showed grit and determination in their opening match of the NJCAA National Tournament, but fell short in a 1-0 loss to Seminole State College.

From the opening whistle, LCCC created dangerous opportunities but couldn't find the finishing touch. The best early chance came in the first half when Ekena Little unleashed a stunning 35-yard free kick that rattled off the crossbar. Moments later, a point-blank volley was denied by Seminole State's goalkeeper, keeping the score level. Avery Anderson added to the pressure midway through the half with a 25-yard strike that was tipped wide by the Seminole keeper. Despite the offensive push, the match remained scoreless at halftime.

Seminole State broke through in the 69th minute when Gracie Lee fired a low-driven shot from outside the 18-yard box, finding the back of the net for the game's lone goal.

Even after conceding, LCCC's defense stood strong. Anchored by Ekena Little, Evelyn Anderson, Victoria Espinoza, and Adelaide Gonzales, along with goalkeeper Jenna Feldmann, the Golden Eagles kept the match within reach. Feldmann was outstanding between the posts, recording seven saves to keep her team in contention.

With the loss, LCCC turns its focus to tomorrow's matchup against Navarro College to close out pool play. A win will be crucial as the Golden Eagles look to keep their tournament hopes alive.
