Golden Eagles start second day of invitation with win

CHEYENNE, WY - The Golden Eagles (1-1) opened the second day of the LCCC Volleyball Invitational with a 3-1 win over Colorado Northwestern (1-1) on Saturday morning.

Rigan McInerney (Gillette, Wyo.) recorded 27 kills in the match, the second-most kills in a match in program history behind Cassidy Nelson who did so on November 2, 2019. 

The Golden Eagles got off to a fast start, taking control of the first set early on the way to a 25-15 win before outlasting the Spartans in the second set, 26-24.

Freshman Michela De Stefano (Rome, Italy) tallied a career-high 12 kills and led the team in digs with 15.

After the Spartans took the third set 25-19, the Golden Eagles stormed back and finished the match off, winning the third set, 25-16.

Shelby Veenstra (Twin Falls, Idaho) finished the match with 46 assists.
