Golden Eagles swept by Thunderbirds

CASPER, WY - The Laramie County Community College Golden Eagles (9-12, 1-3) fell to the Casper College Thunderbirds (12-12, 3-3) 3-0 on Saturday afternoon. 

The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the opening set before Casper put together a run, winning the first set 25-21 to open the match.

Michela De Stefano (Rome, Italy) finished the match with 13 kills and nine digs while Rigan McInerney (Gillette, Wyo) had six kills and 10 digs.

LCCC and Casper played a back-and-forth second set as the Golden Eagles took a 14-13 lead before Casper went on an 8-2 to take a 21-16 lead. The Golden Eagles then rattled off four straight points, capped off by a Lauren Lacey (Gillette, Wyo.) ace to cut the Casper lead to 21-20 before the Thunderbirds went on to win the set, 25-21. 

Shelby Veenstra (Twin Falls, Idaho) finished the match with 33 assists while Lacey ended the day with three aces. 

The Thunderbirds jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the third set before the Golden Eagles were able to cut the Casper advantage to 12-10. Casper would go on to win the set 25-16.

The Golden Eagles return home, Friday, October 8, when they host Eastern Wyoming for Spike Polio Night at 7:00 pm.
