Golden Eagles Swept by Lancers

CHEYENNE, WY- The Laramie County Community College Golden Eagles (12-15, 4-6) were swept by Eastern Wyoming (11-12, 6-6) 3-0 on Friday night in Torrington. 

The Golden Eagles fell behind early as Eastern Wyoming scored 10 of the first 13 points, taking a 10-3 lead in the first. After the Golden Eagles were able to stop the run, the Lancers went on to score the next four points to push the lead to 14-4 in the first set. LCCC put together a run, scoring three consecutive points highlighted by a Michela De Stefano (Rome, Italy) ace. After a timeout, Rigan McInerney (Gillette, Wyo.) pulled the Golden Eagles to within six at 18-12. The Golden Eagles were able to trim the deficit to three, forcing a Lancer timeout at 21-18. Eastern Wyoming scored four of the final five points in the set, winning the first set 25-19. 

Eastern Wyoming jumped out to a 5-3 lead before a Kalme Moncavo (Rio De Janiero, Brazil) block stopped the Lancers' run. After Eastern Wyoming pushed the lead to 11-6, De Stefano recorded an ace to pull the Golden Eagles within four at 11-7. Eastern Wyoming would pull away, winning the second set 25-13 to take a 2-0 lead in the match. 

LCCC fell behind early in the third before McInerney and De Stefano recorded back-to-back points to tie the set at eight, forcing a Lancers' timeout. Following the timeout, the Golden Eagles continued the run, scoring two more points to take a 10-8 lead. Eastern Wyoming fought back to tie the match before the Golden Eagles were able to get their two-point lead back at 15-13 thanks to a McInerney ace. Eastern Wyoming would pull away, winning the third set 25-19 and the match 3-0.

The Golden Eagles will now prepare for the Region IX tournament next week in Scottsbluff, Neb. hosted by Western Nebraska.
