Eagles Can't Recover from Slow Start

La Junta, CO - The LCCC Golden Eagles (2-2) fell behind early after a big first-quarter run by the Rattlers, losing the second game of a two-game road trip, 79-51 to Otero (1-1) on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles got off to a cold start on Saturday afternoon as the Otero Rattlers jumped out to an 18-0 lead as the Golden Eagles started the game with a six-minute scoring drought. LCCC got on the board thanks to a pair of free throws. Otero finished the quarter leading 28-2.

LCCC got off to a good start in the second quarter as Sam Hester (Saratoga Springs, Utah) opened the scoring with a corner three. Hester scored five of the Golden Eagles' first seven points in the quarter. 

Freshman Taylor Gollhofer (Greely, Colo.) provided a spark off the bench for the Golden Eagles, scoring a new career-high with six points while Lucia Fleta (Tenerife, Spain) finished the game with seven points.

The Golden Eagles trailed 39-19 at the half. Sam Hester finished the game with seven points with five of them coming in the first half. 

LCCC trailed 69-33 going into the fourth quarter and would outscore the Rattlers 18-10. Abby Garreaud (Magna, Utah) ended the game with a team-high eight points

The Golden Eagles return home on Tuesday when they host the #14 Western Nebraska Cougars at the RAC at 5:30 pm.
