LCCC Battles on the Road in Tough Conference Matchup at Western Wyoming

Rock Springs, Wyo. — January 31, 2026
Laramie County Community College put together a resilient effort on the road Saturday afternoon but came up just short in a 61–53 loss to Western Wyoming Community College at Rock Springs.

The Golden Eagles showed early poise, opening the game with a strong first quarter and taking a 14–11 lead behind disciplined defense and efficient shot selection. LCCC continued to compete throughout the first half, heading into halftime within striking distance at 24–23.

Western Wyoming used a third-quarter surge to create separation, outscoring LCCC 23–18 in the period. Despite the momentum swing, the Golden Eagles never backed down, continuing to pressure defensively and generate quality looks on offense in the final quarter.

LCCC was led by Hannah Briskey, who delivered a standout performance with 17 points and nine rebounds, anchoring the Golden Eagles on both ends of the floor. Briskey's physical presence inside and efficiency at the free-throw line helped keep LCCC within reach throughout the contest. Nuria Florensa provided a spark from the perimeter, knocking down three three-pointers on her way to 10 points, while also contributing three assists. Sabela Carro matched Florensa with 10 points, adding four assists and steady guard play against Western Wyoming's pressure defense.

The Golden Eagles demonstrated unselfish basketball, finishing with 14 assists on 18 made field goals. LCCC also converted 75 percent from the free-throw line, an encouraging sign in a tightly contested road game.

LCCC's defense played a key role in keeping the contest close, holding Western Wyoming to 25 percent shooting from beyond the arc. The Golden Eagles forced 21 turnovers, consistently disrupting passing lanes and creating transition opportunities.

Despite being outrebounded, LCCC battled inside, collecting 26 total rebounds and limiting second-chance opportunities during critical stretches of the game. The team's effort and communication on the defensive end allowed them to stay within single digits deep into the fourth quarter.
