Golden Eagles Show Fight in Hard‑Battled Loss to Eastern Wyoming

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Feb. 28th, 2026

The Laramie County Community College women's basketball team showed resilience and late-game energy but ultimately fell 78–62 to Eastern Wyoming College on Saturday afternoon at LCCC.

Playing in front of a lively home crowd on East College Drive, the Golden Eagles opened the game tightly contested, matching the Lancers 14–14 through the first quarter. But a challenging second period, in which LCCC managed just six points, allowed Eastern Wyoming to build a cushion the Golden Eagles were unable to overcome.

Despite the halftime deficit, LCCC refused to fold. The Golden Eagles scored 42 points after the break, including a strong 20‑point fourth quarter push fueled by improved shooting and defensive intensity. They knocked down 10 three-pointers overall, battling to the final buzzer.

Freshman guard Irelynd Barnes led the way with 17 points, including five shots from beyond the arc.
Sophomore sharpshooter Julia Sanz Bonet provided a major spark off the bench, adding 14 points on an efficient 4‑of‑5 from three‑point range.

LCCC's interior effort was anchored by Sabela Carro, who grabbed a team‑high 10 rebounds while contributing 6 points and a steal. The Golden Eagles collected 36 total boards on the afternoon.
