Scottsbluff, Neb. — March 7, 2026
Laramie County Community College (LCCC) delivered a decisive and disciplined performance Saturday afternoon, earning a 73–59 win over Western Nebraska Community College (WNCC). The Golden Eagles outscored the Cougars in three of four quarters and used a dominant fourth period to secure the road victory.

Before a crowd of 300 at Cougar Palace, LCCC showcased efficiency, depth, and composure, improving its momentum as postseason play approaches. After ending the first quarter tied 13–13, the Golden Eagles steadily built separation, culminating in a 23-point fourth quarter that sealed the game.

Sophomore forward Sabela Carro led LCCC with a game-high 23 points on 11-of-16 shooting. Carro added five rebounds, five assists, and three steals, delivering a complete two-way performance that set the tone for the Golden Eagles.

LCCC's depth was a key factor in the win, with multiple players contributing in critical moments: Nuria Florensa posted 14 points and six rebounds, providing consistency in the paint. Selenay Tanik added 13 points and six rebounds off the bench, giving LCCC a strong interior presence. Julia Sanz Bonet supplied nine points, including two three-pointers that helped fuel LCCC runs. Helena Salazar Meinesz contributed seven points, five rebounds, and two steals, sparking momentum at both ends of the floor.

LCCC shot an impressive 51.9% from the field and outrebounded the Cougars 40–30, collecting nine offensive boards that led to extended possessions and second‑chance scoring.

Defensively, the Golden Eagles held Western Nebraska to 36.5% shooting, including just 3-of-14 from beyond the arc. LCCC forced 17 turnovers, converting them into fast‑break opportunities that shifted the momentum during the second half.

WNCC's Charisma Johnson led the Cougars with 18 points and nine rebounds, but no other Western Nebraska player reached double figures, highlighting LCCC's disciplined defensive execution.

With the first round win over Western Nebraska, the Golden Eagles advance to the final host site in Rock Springs, WY. LCCC's next game will be Thursday, March 12th at 5:00pm (MST) vs Gillette College.
