CHEYENNE, WY - Abby Garreaud (Magna, Utah) scored 15 points and grabbed 13 rebounds but it wasn't enough as the Golden Eagles lost a close season-opening contest to McCook 64-61 on Friday night, January 22, at the RAC.
LCCC got things going early as Garreaud scored six of the Golden Eagles' first eight points as LCCC jumped out to an 8-0 lead. McCook and LCCC stayed close as both teams shot under 35 percent for the game. Anna Terron (Tarragona, Spain) finished the game one rebound shy of a double-double, finishing with 10 points and nine rebounds.
LCCC went into the locker room with a 34-32 lead and played McCook even in the third quarter.
The Golden Eagles got out to a slow start in the fourth quarter, falling behind early thanks to a McCook 10-4 run. LCCC had the lost shot but a three-pointer from the corner was short at the buzzer.
Sam Hester (Saratoga, Springs, Utah) finished with nine points and six rebounds in the contest while Ximena Gutierrez (Glenwood Springs, Colo.) finished with eight points, eight rebounds, and a game-high four assists.
The Golden Eagles were outrebounded 53-47, giving up 20 offensive rebounds. LCCC's defense played well, forcing 10 steals and blocking four shots. The Golden Eagles are back in action on Saturday, January 23 against North Platte at the RAC.
